How Honeymoon Bay Became the Tourist Attraction it is Today (Track This Article)

"Honeymoon Bay on Vancouver Island in British Columbia is a picturesque community that holds mountains and lakes as its setting. This small town, which was discovered by Henry March in the 1887, is now a thriving community with a butcher shop, post office, general store, community hall, and a volunteer fire department. However, the town stays true to its history and for this reason, March’s home that he built himself with only the help of oxen and horses, still stands on the land it was originally built. This is one of the many things that you can see while you are in Honeymoon Bay.

The community that stands today is large part due to the Western Forest Industries Mill, which back in the 1940s, employed over 500 people while it made full use of the abundance of natural resources and created job opportunities at the same time. The Community Hall opened soon after in 1948 providing an area for children to play and tennis courts for recreation. The historic Honeymoon Bay Community Hall is also still standing today and available for many recreational activities.

The mill suffered a small shutdown in the 1950s leaving many residents unemployed. Although the mill reopened, it officially closed its doors forever in 1981. This sent many people on the island leaving in search of other work. After their departure, those that still chose to stay in Honeymoon Bay received their property for very fair purchase prices and the prices haven’t differed that much today. For those that are interested in buying property in Honeymoon Bay, it’s very affordable! There are also three RV parks for those that want to take an extended vacation in Honeymoon Bay or live there on a permanent basis!

The many visitors that Honeymoon Bay sees in one year pay tribute to what an exciting place this small town community is! There is something for everyone to do here. Many enjoy getting in a round of golf at March Meadows Golf and Country Club or laying around on one of the beaches. The Wildflower Reserve is another great attraction. It is only at the Reserve where you can see exotic flowers that call places all around the world home. The wildflowers are truly marvelous and are a breathtaking display! After you have spent a day on the water, on the course, or gazing at flowers, you may want to kick back with a cocktail and you can do this at the Cutthroat Tavern. This pub-style restaurant and bar was opened in 1997 and has become well-loved in the hearts of anyone who has ever visited it.

Not only is the weather warm in Honeymoon Bay but the history is also rich. This town has transformed itself from a working town, into a nearly deserted town, and now it serves as a tourist town. This quaint little neighbourhood is a perfect way to spend a vacation as you soak up the scenery and enjoy your time in one of the most beautiful towns in Canada!
