Learn to Play Blackjack (Track This Article)

By: Gene Marshall

The game of blackjack, one of the most popular casino card games, is played by millions of people worldwide. People play blackjack in tournaments, in live casinos and even on the Internet. If you are interested in starting to play casino blackjack it’s easy to learn blackjack rules.

If you want to learn how to play blackjack you first need to understand what you have to do in order to win. The game of blackjack is played against the dealer and you win by obtaining a hand that is worth a higher value than the dealer’s hand, without breaking 21. If you break 21 in blackjack this is known as busting and you lose the game.

In the blackjack game hand values are determined by adding together all of the cards in your hand. Cards that are numbered from 2 through 10 are worth their face value in points. For instance, a 5-card is worth five points. Jacks, Queens and Kings are worth ten points and Aces are worth either one point or ten points, you decide based on what works best for your hand.

The game of blackjack begins with blackjack betting. Before any cards are dealt you place your bet. Once bets are placed the blackjack dealer deals two cards out to each player, placing them face up on the table. The blackjack dealer takes two cards as well but places one face up and the other face down. Based on your cards and the dealer’s exposed card you must decide to stand, hit, split or double down. When you stand in blackjack you are admitting satisfaction with your cards and are keeping your current hand. When you hit the dealer gives you additional cards in order to increase the value of your hand. Just beware when you hit—remember that you cannot break 21. More advanced players play with splitting and doubling. You may choose to split your initial 2-card hand into two separate hands and play them separately. You may also choose to double your bet on your initial 2-card hand. If you double then you will receive one additional card.

At the end of the game the dealer flips over his face down card to reveal his hand. If your hand is higher than the dealer’s without breaking 21 then you win a payout of 1:1 on your bet. If you win with a 2-card hand worth 21 points you win a payout of 3:2. If the dealer beats you then your bet goes to the house.

Now that you understand the rules of blackjack you are ready to start blackjack gambling today. You can start playing in a live casino or you can play online blackjack. There are free online blackjack games if you like to play blackjack for fun or as a way to practice and improve your game and there are also blackjack games for real money if you love to gamble. However you choose to play blackjack you are sure to have a blast playing this widely popular casino card game.
