Allergies are an extremely common problem around the world, especially in Sydney. In fact Australia has some of the highest rates of asthma, allergies and hayfever in the world. So why do so many people suffer this problem? The real issue is an over-reaction of the immune system, reveals a local chiropractor and kinesiologist.

An allergic response occurs when the immune system identifies a foreign substance (the allergen) as if it was a dangerous invading bacteria or virus and mounts a full scale response. There are different types of allergy response. The most serious is a true anaphylactic allergy, which is a life-threatening emergency requiring immediate medical care.

Less serious, but much more common, is a type of reaction that is not a true anaphylactic allergy, but is an allergy-type response. This may take many forms, including digestive upset, headaches, joint or muscle pains, tiredness, brain fog and various other symptoms.

The trigger for these allergy-type reactions can be virtually anything, although very often it is something we have eaten or drank, or something we have put on our body, such as a cosmetic, deodorant or shampoo. All of these can be grouped into a broad category of chemical triggers.

The other category of triggers for this allergy-type response are emotional triggers, which can include people, places, objects…in fact just about anything can be a trigger for the allergy response. The reasons for this reaction are usually subconscious and are completely unknown to the individual.

A simplistic example is that someone who was bitten by a dog, or even just badly frightened by a dog, may later in life display an "allergy" to dogs. Depending on the extent to which the person's subconscious has generalised the trigger this may even result in an allergy response to all animals.

The person may have no conscious fear of animals, yet they trigger that danger response in the body that sets off the immune response that forms the allergy response.
This type of "emotional" allergy can be treated by a Neuro Emotional Technique (NET) practitioner. These are most often chiropractors who have done post-graduate study in NET.

When it comes to the chemical category of allergies, a good place to start treatment is to address any imbalance in the gut, as these are often linked to allergies. Taking a course of probiotics- beneficial bacteria for the digestive system, is usually helpful. Avoiding any obvious triggers, such as irritating foods, is also a good idea. Detoxifying the body to reduce chemical sensitivity is also important in many cases.

There are a number of natural procedures to desensitize the body to the allergens, such as a physical treatment involving the spine and a homeopathic allergy remedy.

This combination of therapies usually produces excellent results when it comes to eliminating allergies. The use of kinesiology to identify any allergic triggers, as well as to determine which are emotional and which are chemical, allows for a fast and effective solution for allergies.
