What are .cn domains?
What are Domains?
The internet has grown into a pretty huge pile of all sorts of information. It is tough to sort through all this junk to obtain the exact information that we need. This is where Domains come into play. Domains give each website a specific address just like your house address. It tells what the particular website is all about and where it is located. Domain names initially were very simple. But with the spurt in growth of internet traffic and the subsequent increase in the number of websites as well has brought in a more clearly defined method of domain names for various websites. The World Wide Web has truly gone global especially with the availability of cheap web hosting services. In this age of internet business, the various websites are demarcated based on several factors like type of organization, location etc.
Domains usually consist of the name part which signifies the website. It usually is the name of the organization. The next part denotes the type of organization that the website is representing. Some of the types available include education (.edu or .ac), organization (.org), government (.gov), commercial (.com), network providers (.net). The next part of the domain name denotes the country that hosts the website. It is a two letter part and is usually a short form of the country’s name. For example we have (.cn) for China, (.hk) for Hong Kong and (.au) for Australia. Domains can be registered by anyone through a web hosting service. With the payment of a nominal amount, you can choose your domain name provided that it is available.

The .cn domains are the country code top level domains also known as ccTLD meant for the People’s Republic of China. This domain name administration is done through a branch of the Ministry of Information Technology in The People’s Republic of China. The ministry of Information Technology looks after everything right from broadcasting to telecommunications. This is similar to the Federal Communications Commission in the United States of America. This registry is always maintained by the China Network Information Center, which is also known as the CNNIC. Here the actual registration process is done by the commercial registrars, like how it is carried out in the other parts of the world. The Neulevel has entered into a partnership with China Network Information Center to help market the .cn even outside mainland China. At present it falls amongst the top-level domains. It is currently rated the fourth most popular only after the .com, .de and .net.
